As per the ‘International Safety Management (ISM) Code’, the ‘International Maritime Organization (IMO)’,
made provisions for setting up of a dedicated ISM cell to oversee the implementation and operation of Safety Management System (SMS)
thereby ensuring safe operation of ships and pollution prevention. The implementation of the code came into force on 1st July 2002.
Accordingly, ISM cell was formed and SMS implemented on all vessels. DCI was issued with Document of Compliance (DOC) for ISM Code by
DG Shipping, Govt. of India. Subsequently, the ‘International Ship and Port facility Security (ISPS) Code’, was amended for ensuring
adequate maritime security measures on ships came into force on 1st July 2004. ISM cell was made the custodian for the implementation of
ISPS Code and all vessels complied with ISPS Code and obtained International Ship Security Certificate.
In order to meet the growing demands of the statutory / obligatory requirements and being a proactive
corporate, DCI formed HSE department on 17-01-2005 to meet the mandatory requirements of ISM & ISPS Codes and also to implement and
maintain the Quality and Environmental Management Systems (QMS and EMS) effectively. Thus, the department has been entrusted the works
of SMS, QMS and EMS. The Head of the HSE department is appointed as the Designated Person as per ISM Code, Company Security Officer as
per ISPS Code and Management Representative as regards to ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004. DCI, covering Head Office, Project Offices
and vessels, is certified for QMS in accordance with ISO 9001:2008 and EMS in accordance with ISO 14001:2004.
