Sanjay Pant is an officer of 1990 batch, IRS (Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs). He comes with a vast field of experience as a Commissioner in handling Service Tax, Central Excise and GST Commissionerates at Bengaluru, Mysuru and Visakhapatnam respectively. He has also held strategic charges at major Custom Houses in Mumbai, JNPT Nhavasheva (Raigad), Visakhapatnam, Odisha, and Land Customs Station at Attari Road, Amritsar.
Sanjay has worked in the Directorate of Service Taxes Mumbai and headed Central Excise Divisions in Ludhiana, Patiala, Ropar, Raigad, Thane and Mumbai. As Commissioner Appeal(s) at Bengaluru, Chennai and Mysore, he has disposed more than 4,000 cases. While in service, Sanjay was actively engaged in new initiatives on ease of doing business at the above mentioned locations. He has been actively involved in policy issues, GST implementation, cadre restructuring and budget proposals with the CBIC.
As executive head, he led anti evasion, anti- smuggling, audit, review, data analysis, quasi -judicial work (passed 2,000 orders in originals), besides implementing revenue augmentation measures.
Sanjay has been nominated as mentor to probationers, delivered lectures at various training institutes and attended many courses and workshops in India and abroad. He has interacted and addressed many trade associations and professional accounting bodies like FICCI, NASSCOM, ASSOCHAM, ICAI etc.
Sanjay has been Convener of Regional Economic Intelligence Councils (REICs) of Andhra Pradesh for 18 months and acted as member for over 15 years at REICs in Bengaluru, Mumbai and Rajasthan. He attended GST councils meetings and National Central Conference of Enforcement.
Sanjay has acted as a Board Member of Visakhapatnam Port Authority, nominated as an election observer (3 times), was editor of departmental Hindi magazine and undertook many state level programs under Swachch Bharat Abiyaan, Rozgar Mela etc. The seizure of cannabis and foreign illicit cigarettes in Andhra Pradesh is the highest pan India during his tenure. He has attended two Mid-Career Training programmes in The London School of Business and at IIM Lucknow, and ISB Hyderabad
