Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Department

As per the ‘International Safety Management (ISM) Code’, the ‘International Maritime Organization (IMO) made provisions for setting up of a dedicated ISM cell to oversee the implementation and operation of Safety Management System (SMS) thereby ensuring safe operation of ships and pollution prevention. The implementation of the code came into force on 01st July’2002. Accordingly, ISM cell was formed and SMS implemented on all vessels.  DCI was issued with Document of Compliance (DOC) for ISM Code by DG Shipping, Govt. of India.
Subsequently, the ‘International Ship and Port facility Security (ISPS) Code’, was implemented for ensuring adequate maritime security measures on ships came into force on 01st July’2004. ISM cell was made the custodian for the implementation of ISPS Code and all vessels complied with ISPS Code are holding valid ISSC (International Ship Security Certificate) as applicable

In order to meet the growing demands of the statutory / obligatory requirements and being a proactive corporate, DCI formed HSE department on 17th Jan’2005 to meet the mandatory requirements of Integrated Management System (IMS), ISM & ISPS Codes and also to implement and maintain other statutory requirements such as MLC-2006, SEEMP, GMP etc.Thus, the department has been entrusted the works of SMS, ISPS, QMS and EMS. The Head of the HSE department is appointed as the Designated Person as per ISM Code, Company Security Officer as per ISPS Code and Nodal Officer with regard to IMS (ISO-9001:2015 for QMS and ISO-14001:2015 for EMS). DCI, covering Head Office, Project Offices and Vessels, is certified for Integrated Management System (IMS) in accordance with ISO-9001:2015 for QMS and ISO-14001:2015 for EMS.

Achieve MOU target pertaining to HSE department.

Achieve Customer Satisfaction through QMS and adopt Environment friendly procedures through EMS.

ACTIVITIES:

Planning and scheduling of HSE functions

Operation and monitoring of SMS, ISPS and IMS.

Planning and carrying out internal audits of above systems.

Review of audit results and effective implementation of SMS, ISPS and IMS.

Ensuing continual improvement.

Projecting, implementing, imparting training and awareness needs pertaining to SMS, ISPS and IMS.

Coordinating and guiding other departments in operation of above systems in their departments.
