Shri Rajat Sachar, has completed a Masters in Economics from Delhi School of Economics in 1984. He has pursued the National Security and Strategic Studies Course at the National Defence College (NDC), New Delhi in 2002. Shri Sachar joined the Indian Economic Services (IES) in 1985. His first assignment was with Ministry of Labour where he worked as Assistant Director from April 1987 to February 1991 and as Deputy Director from February 1991 to February 1997. Thereafter, he got a new assignment as Deputy Secretary (Training) in Ministry of Defence where he served till June 1999 and got promoted as Director (Ordnance) in June 1999 and worked in this capacity till January’2002. In January 2003 he moved as Director in Planning Commission and remained there till July 2010. During August 2010 to January 2012 he worked as Additional Economic Adviser with the Department of Commerce. He served as Economic Adviser in the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Finance for two and a half years till August 2014 when he joined as Adviser in DEA. Shri Sachar has acquired rich experience with respect to Policy related to Statutory Labour welfare funds, International Labour Organization and Industrial Relations. He has worked on the administration of the training establishments of the Army, Sainik Schools, Military Schools, NCC and Defence related foreign training cooperation. He has had exposure regarding procurement of weapons, equipment and general store for the Army apart from preparation of Development Reports of Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep. He also holds experience in Policy formulation, review and monitoring of Annual Plans of States and Union Territories besides formulation of Five Year Plan, Annual Plan, Annual Report, Strategic Plan, RFD of Department of Commerce.
